In this course, you will learn about the Eco-Schools Seven-Step Methodology and understand it as an approach of Project Based Learning (PBL).
If you are already familiar with PBL, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to incorporate what you already know about PBL into your work with the Seven Steps. If you are new to PBL, this course will introduce you to key concepts of PBL and at the same time show you how to apply this knowledge to your teaching practices through the Seven Steps Framework.
You will hear from experienced members of the FEE Network that all have valuable insights into the processes involved with implementing the Seven Steps, working with PBL and most importantly teaching children about Sustainability and the Environment.
The aim of this course is to inspire you in implementing the Seven Steps Methodology.
Eco-Schools is an international programme of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that aims to “empower students to be the change our sustainable world needs by engaging them in fun, action-orientated and socially responsible learning.”
Each school follows a seven-step change process and aims to “empowers young people to lead processes and actions wherever they can. Over time and through a commitment to the Eco-Schools Seven Step process, improvements will be seen in both the learning outcomes, attitude and behaviour of students and the local community, and ultimately the local environment. Evidence of success in these areas will eventually lead to a school being awarded the International Green Flag.
This course will give you an overview of the assessment criteria and help you plan your journey towards a Green Flag Awarded Eco-School!

In this course, you will be introduced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – the set of globally recognized goals that aim to secure a sustainable, peaceful, prosperous, and equitable life on Earth for everyone now and in the future by 2030.
Yes, the SDGs are indeed ambitious and need participation of all of us! That is also why this course will provide you with specific ideas for how you can get involved and help achieve these goals through your school and local community.
We are in a catch 22 situation. We have been able to successfully raise our quality of life and standards of living since the industrial revolution. On one hand, this rapid advancement in a very short time of human existence on Earth has made our survival easier, but on the other hand, it has created economic systems that are heavily dependent on the use of energy and other resources. The exploitation of resources to meet the ever-increasing demands has degraded the nature of which we are part and on which we are dependent to meet our needs.
The environmental challenges in a very short time of our existence on Earth have forced us to critically look at alternatives that can ensure sustainable development. Since time immemorial, one of the systems that humans have got their inspiration to learn and adapt is the natural world. Circular
Economy (CE) as an idea is inspired by nature, a perfect design that renews restores, and grows on its own with no concept of waste. It provides a regenerative framework for the paradigm shift to mirror natural processes to design our production and consumption
(economic) systems to restore natural capital to the biosphere and use materials indefinitely in cycles of closed loops.
The course provides an overview of the concept of Circular Economy and its principles and introduces how the principles are being used to shift a linear economy to a circular economy.
The course is suitable for the age of 16 and above.

The course will introduce you to the basic foundations of Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), including the origins of EE and ESD and the educational processes connected to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The course also shares the resources created by different agencies and available for use. After the course, you will be able to
explain the basic concepts of ESD;
identify the educational principles of FEE;
reflect on applications of ESD concepts in their projects and programmes
